I'm not sure if the 2nd or 3rd games get any better, but the first game in the trilogy is so bad I would not even recommend it to my worst enemies if I had any. If you were like me and bought this game thinking: "Oh wow! Traditional hand-drawn animation! I want to support that!" - DON'T! The animation length is very brief (intro only) and extremely choppy (6-7 frames for some scenes), and the sprite animation is also pretty bad. There's no actual "war" animations, just visual novel style garbage. There are mostly arbitrary "war" events which is just a selection of 5 options that affect your battle and most war encounters are scripted to match your army's size. You are also bouncing between multiple parties arbitrarily (worst storytelling idea for a video game ever). Don't get attached to any unit in particular because they will either die or exit on story-related events. It plays like a poorly conceived board game. This basically eliminates any viable strategic placement of soldiers that are not just used in other games but in real life history as well. Guide your caravan across the landscape of a breaking world, where the sun has stopped in the sky and the gods are dead. If you have 6 units, and they have 2, those 2 will get 3 extra actions before you get around to the same unit again. The Banner Saga Trilogy Stoic Edition includes: Weave your own thread through this epic Viking RPG adventure with the Banner Saga Trilogy. For example: the order of turns are your side, enemy side. The game mechanics are simplified way too much to the point where viable strategies don't work.
